Build-A-Bear for the Holidays

by That's IT Mommy on December 27, 2009

What a fun day to meet up with one of our good friends - Dariela, Derek and their 3-year-old son, Adrian at the Build-a-Bear store. I don’t know why I never thought of bringing Izzy to this store before, but we finally made our way here. Well, I guess she might have been too young to understand that you can build your own buddy, adopt it and then take it home with you. The concept of Build-a-Bear is really adorable, especially for parents who like bring out their inner child at these kind of places. Sometimes, I feel like the parents enjoy these places more than the kids do, honestly.

Meet Adri, short for Adrian. Izzy’s known him since they were around 1 & 1/2 years old and they’ve been buddies ever since. When you get these 2 kids together it’s non-stop fun, laughter and all around craziness, but it’s very entertaining. Having them both at one time brings my perspective of having a second child into light. Well, I’m not saying that I don’t want to have a second kid, but having him with Izzy is such a delight.

Both kids picked out their future buddies to build and eventually, take home. Derek, decided that Frosty the Snowman would be a great pick for Adri because of the Holiday Season; while Izzy picked out a Brown Sugar Puppy, she dubbed Ali.

The kids had such a great time stuffing their new friends, bring them to life, giving them a bath before taking them home and finally, giving them a name. What a fun afternoon to spend with friends at the Build-a-Bear station. Izzy loves to have play dates with her friends, especially Adri.

After our adventure at Build-a-Bear, we decided to have lunch a the mall’s food court. What a crazy afternoon! Dariela, is now 8 months pregnant with her 2nd little one and was able to snag us a table for 6. Who can say no to a beautiful pregnant lady. Thanks, Dari. To burn off the calories, we headed toward a little hideaway play area for the kids to enjoy while the grown-ups had a little bit of time to talk, well…about “grown up things” of course. I was jipped though, Izzy dragged me from one toy block to the next as I stood their watching my “grown up” friends laugh and chat away about who knows what. Well, I can’t complain too much because these two rascals were just a hoot.

It was time to say our goodbyes. All Adri could say was “Is Izzy coming to our house later on?” We all just stood there, looked at one another and just laughed.

Have you been to Build-a-Bear with your kids? If you have, why don’t you share your experience here and leave us a comment. We would love to hear from you.

I love how you tell the story of the day. And you are right, it’s almost more entertaining for adults than for the kids!
