Photo Tuesday Review & Giveaway: Capturing Couture camera straps

I honestly don’t know who’s by my side more, my family or my camera! LOL. My camera goes just about everywhere I go. Taking pictures is fun but the black strap on my camera is just so boring. I’ve been researching straps that offer style and complement my femininity. I think moms can look stylish while photographing.

Photography is a way of life for many moms (and dads). Fortunately there are companies like Capturing Couture who offer unique and beautiful camera straps & accessories. “Founded by two working moms, one with an extreme fervor for design, the other with a profound passion for photography, Capturing Couture has revolutionized the accessories market with a collection of fashion forward camera straps for men and women.”

Alicia Strap

Capturing Couture generously offered me a choice of straps for review. I chose the Alicia Strap (pictured). I love the sky blue and floral pattern. The colors are vibrant and definitely stand out. The strap was easy to install and the velvet neck padding held the strap comfortably in place. I tend to wear the strap on my shoulder and this strap was the perfect width (1.5”) for my small shoulders. The strap is fashionable and feminine and I love it!

Alicia Strap

The straps range from $29.00 – $49.00 and they offer two width sizes 1.5” and 2”. The straps are adjustable so it will be a nice fit for anyone. The selection of straps offers something for everyone. You won’t find a plain black strap here. What you’ll find is flair, color and design. Do you know a dad who loves his camera and isn’t afraid to be fashionable? The Jason camera strap is a handsome choice.

Lisa Grim, co-owner of Capturing Couture, answers questions for That’s IT Mommy:

1) What do you love about your mom?

I love that she has always believed in me, and helped to set very high goals and encouraged ambitious dreams since I was very young.  I feel this is a key factor in being a strong, independent woman in today’s society and knowing that there is nothing I can’t accomplish if I set my mind to it.  She has always been my #1 fan, and has turned into a great friend as I get older.  She always believed that women can accomplish anything – we are born with an amazing work ethic and ability to multi-task.

2) What do you love about being a mom?

I love supporting and encouraging my daughters to dream big in life, and go for whatever things they want to accomplish.  They are each unique individuals and I love seeing them grow into their own personalities with different strengths.  The funny things they say and do every day is awe inspiring, and can’t wait for the next surprise to come.  I hope to not only always be their mom, but also their friend and confidant as they mature into independent strong women one day, just like my mom taught me.

3) What or who inspired you to start your own business?

The inspiration to start this business came from many years of creative passion all our lives, combined with industry expertise and collaboration both from the photography angle and fashion industry.  We saw a niche and valid hole in the market that we could fill in a completely unique way.

4) What advice do you have for women who are afraid to start their own ventures?

I believe starting your own venture, no matter how big or small is an amazingly rewarding experience for all women.  No matter what the overall size of the business becomes, being able to express yourself and your internal passion is priceless and helps women feel rewarded in a completely different way.

I love taking pictures of my kids and how they change. And never really realized that having a good camera actually does improve picture taking. Since buying my Nikon in January I take it everywhere, I want to have all the memories of my children.

I love being able to capture a moment in time, a funny face that my sons are making, my puppy doing something cute, my oldest son all dressed up in a tux for the prom, my youngest son soloing an airplane (I was so nervous!). Taking pictures to me is preserving history, my family’s history, for those who come after to get a glimpse into who they are.

My favorite tip: always have the camera at your side: you never know when a special moment will happen. There have been times I left my camera in the car at family reunions and missed out on some special moments that I regret weren’t captured in film. Never again! #1

I’m not a photographer, but I love photography because that’s what my awesome daughter does! She is off to college in the fall, to study photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This camera strap would be an awesome sendoff present for her, and help her stand out from the crowd of her fellow photography students. Thanks for all the great photo tips and gear we find on your blog!

+1 Photo tip: Don’t wait to take “the perfect picture.” It just happens naturally. In fact, I’ve got out to do shoots and didn’t think I had anything good until I uploaded the images into my computer. I thought, “Wow!”

Also, don’t rely on your LCD scene because sometimes it’s unavailable. If you have a DSLR, make sure to get a camera with a tradition eye hole.

Why I love to photograph things , is because you can always look back and say “oh look, remember this?!”

I love how simple it is to just leave it as a memory for others to come upon one day to see and ask about.

I love the mystery behind a photograph.

Photo tip is to just not try to hard.

Try putting the camera somewhere you havent really thought about before. Set it on the ground and use a timer. Let kids play and just snap every 15 seconds.

Buy a pet camera and let them run off to there usual spots.

I recently purchased a Canon Rebel xsi and am in the process of starting my own studio!! I love the memories that pictures capture. When you capture the right moment, a single glance of the photo can bring back MILLIONs of memories from that moment! Love it!!!

Another photography trick is to purchase a cheap HD lens to go on the end of your expensive lenses! Prevents scratches! It’s much easier to replace a $2 hd lens end rather than the entire lens!! #3

I love photography both because of its historical impact (even if the photo is personal it marks a place in time and the sociology that was then going on) and because looking at a photograph can bring back a host of memories!

My favorite thing about photography is that it allows you to capture a moment, and that you can use that photograph to relive memories from that moment that may have otherwise been pushed out of mind. It’s great to remember even the tiniest details that can be caught with a picture. Thanks for the giveaway, the stra looks awesome!

My best photography tip is never delete pictures on the camera itself. You should always download to the computer and then reformat the card before using it again. Deleting on the card increases the chances of the memory card becoming corrupted. I’d rather delete on my computer than lose a whole series of images due to memory card issues!
