My family owns a lot of VTech toys. Mommy’s favorite is the Rhyme & Discover book that Teagan has read since she was only a few months old. The great thing about these toys is that they are so interesting and fun to use. Our whole family plays with them! Out of the VTech items we own, the Kidizoom Digital Camera (read our review here) and the VTech Kidijamz Music Studio are our faves. Teagan and mommy share photography tips and we all love mixing musical styles.
First a little back ground on VTech: “VTech has been developing high-quality, innovative, educational products for children from birth to preteen that deliver “smart play” through the combination of entertaining electronic formats and engaging, age-suitable content that help children learn while having fun. VTech believes kids have the power!” I was thrilled when VTech reached out to us regarding their new Touch Learning System called MobiGo. We were sent a MobiGo to review before it hits the stores on June 7. This is Teagan’s introduction to a hand held educational game system.
My husband and I both love video games. We were major gamers as kids. I’m sure Teagan will follow in our footsteps! BUT video game technology has come a LONG way. Tegan’s generation of kids will have access to the most advanced, innovative and educational games and systems ever created. My husband and I embrace technology and will encourage Teagan to accomplish the mission of learning about math, science and technology and apply it in her life.

The MobiGo is geared towards children aged 3-8. My daughter is a few months shy of 3. She’s already becoming tech-savvy though figuring out how to access our iPhones and through playing a few games on our personal computer. The MobiGo is easy to turn on and you can personalize the system with your child’s name. The system comes with one game cartridge called the Touch & Learn Game Pack. There are 6 different activities that explore math, problem solving, music and more! Touch screen technology is used on a few of the games and the QWERTY keyboard is used for the letter-related games. I like that the letters on the keyboard are arranged as a real keyboard and not in alphabetical order. Teagan usually needs us to flip up the screen when the keyboard is needed. So far she has played all the games in easy and difficult mode. Once she’s mastered the keyboard, she’ll be successful at the Shooting Gallery game. Teagan has a great time moving the ice blocks in the Ice Escape and my husband likes the Music Maestro game. The MobiGo unit has a directional pad and enter button. Their function was not required for the game cartridge supplied to us so I can’t comment on their use. You can hook up the system to the computer to retrieve “cool rewards” from the VTech website once missions are accomplished. For now that option was not available for me to test. VTech let us know that, “Additional games and content will be available for download so kids can customize their MobiGo with the latest innovate games and continue the learning and fun for years to come.”
The MobiGo Touch Learning System retails at $59.99 and the extra cartridges are $19.99 each. I think the MobiGo is priced a little higher than I’d like it to be. I’m sure we all wish that these types of toys were more affordable. We understand the price tags on new technology usually reflect the price of workmanship, development and testing of a product. That eventually gets passed on to the consumer. A few more points, I do like the encouragements from the game’s voice prompts. But I feel the tone of the comment “come on” during the Wild Fun activity can be discouraging. It sounds as if the voice is getting aggravated that you have not made a quick choice. I was surprised by this although the other comments and sound effects from the system are very positive and entertaining.
Overall, we are very impressed with this system. My husband and I have both tested it out and we think it’s a very cool tool. Like VTech, I think that it is fun to stay on top of the hottest high-tech gadgets. Touch screen applications and devises are definitely the way of the future. Anyone that has seen Iron Man 2’s eye-popping design, animation, and visual effect work can only imagine where touch screen technology will boldly go. Our children are rising with this tide and we feel it’s important for them to discover, experience and develop their techno-talents! The MobiGo Touch Learning System is a fun way to help Teagan explore this medium through problem solving, learning and having fun. And that’s the key, fun! As parents we know the serious learning potential of educational technology products. But we need to make sure we promote the fun in learning. And we concur that the MobiGo Touch Learning System is a “revolutionary way to make learning fun with touch!”

Another product we like is the V.Smile Motion Active Learning System. Vtech is a favorite in our house too. Thank you for the great give-away.
I think my son would also really enjoy the V.Smile Active Learning System. Although I think the MobiGo will be perfect for him. He’ll love the pull-out keyboard (just like Daddy’s cell phone)!
