Florida Adventure: Lion Country Safari

Every year during April vacation, my two daughters and I go to visit Gran and Grandpa in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. We always have a great time relaxing by the pool and shopping! This year we decided to visit a local attraction while we were there. We considered Butterfly World but we all agreed that Lion Country Safari sounded a little more exciting. I am so glad that we did.

It is located about 45 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale in Loxahatchee, Fl. Lion Country Safari features a drive-through safari and walk through amusement park. Priced at $25.50 for adults and $18.50 children age 3-9 and free 2 and under. Admission includes the drive through safari and the walk through amusement park and zoo. Plus you can go online and print a coupon for $6 off each person in the car. We got some popcorn and picked up a tour CD and then our adventure began. There were 7 different sections named after real National Parks and Reserves in Africa, such as Gorngosa Reserve and Ruaha National Park, that were separated by large fences. The animals were free to roam and sometimes we had to stop the car to let them cross, especially the ostriches. They were everywhere. We saw huge tortoises, llamas and enormous water buffalos. Adeline was so excited to be sitting in the car looking out at all of these amazing animals. When we came upon the zebras we all were super excited. There were so many you truly felt that you were in Africa and they were so close to the car you could have reached out and touched them.  It was the same situation with the giraffe

Thankfully, the lions were behind a fence but you could clearly see them in all their magnificence lounging around or playing with each other. The chimpanzees and white handed gibbons were separated from the road by water. I am sure that they would have been jumping on the cars if not. We pulled over to the side and watched them “monkey around” for a few minutes. It was really cool.

After the drive portion of the safari, which took us about an hour, we parked the car and headed to the walk through part. I was impressed with the size of this area. There were a lot more animals to view along with amusement rides and, of course, souvenir and snack shops. Kaleigh (my 15 year old) HAD to ride a camel. It was hysterical to see her all alone on the camel. Then we fed a giraffe. I had no idea that they had such long black tongues. We skipped the petting zoo and a water park but they both looked great. I highly recommend that anyone who is in the area to check out Lion Country Safari. It is really fun for all ages.

We just did something like that close to our home. It is so exciting seeing animals so close. My grandkids loved it. I must say, your trip was a little more exciting, no riding camels here. That must have been so much fun.

Looks like you guys had a blast! :) We took our kids to the zoo for the first time a few months ago when we visited my mom. They had SO much fun!! But that is nothing compared to a Safari experience. Man, that is amazing… I am definitely going to check that place out. I’m thinking it would be a wonderful place to visit during vacation!

The Zoo is our favorite place to go! The kids adore the Asheboro zoo in NC but now that we are farther down south we will have to check this one out!
