Review & Giveaway: Skechers Shape-Ups



I’m a working mom. I have to balance my career and family so sometimes I’m just too tired to work out. I know most moms can relate. What if you could work out while you were running errands? Or at the zoo with your kids?

Shape-ups are designed to shape you up without ever setting foot in a gym. I’ve been eyeballing Shape-Ups for a while now. Do they really work? Do they look funny? Sketchers claims that the shoes promote weight loss, and reduce cellulite. I know a few people who own a pair and they love them. I was still skeptical but really curious. I am on a mission to loose 10 lbs and maybe Shape-ups will
help? Or at least motivate me?


I received two pairs of Shape-Ups. The Women’s Shape-Ups XF – Accellerators ($110) and the Shape-Ups AT – Diamondback ($125) and got to answer the question for myself: Do they really work?

Both pairs are really stylish and I like the color scheme. The sneakers come with an instructional DVD. I definitely recommend watching the video. You’ll find tips on proper stepping, standing, etc.

While wearing them you definitely feel taller and I had to get used to this feeling.  I did not want to fall over! Overall, I was standing straighter and had better posture. The step felt nice and I was motivated to start my workout. Being over excited, I did way too much (over an hour walk uphill). My feet hurt and it wasn’t a good sore. I obviously missed the part about starting out slow (30 minutes) because this is a different way of walking.

I decided to try it again after a days rest. This time I kept the walk short and concentrated on my feet moving with rolling steps. The idea of the shoes is to simulate walking on soft sand.

So far here’s what I like about the Shape-Ups XF:

  • Stand taller, better posture
  • Lost 1lb (without adjusting my diet)
  • Look good
  • Comfortable fit
  • I do like the idea that I can wear these any time and maximize the few minutes I have to work out.

I’ve moved on to the to All Terrain (AT) and so far they are comfortable. This style is for light hiking. The AT Shape-Ups are sturdy and feel slightly heavier than the XF sneakers. After a few tries I am now used to walking in these Skechers. I wore them on a walk to the Farmer’s Market this morning. The walk was about 40 minutes (back and forth). I did trip up a couple times but that’s only when I dragged my feet.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress. The shoes seem durable and offer support. Make sure you practice controlled steps. You definitely need to concentrate on your walking. The sneakers are pricey but this is not just a shoe. There is a system that’s built behind them. I’m not really sure that they do what they claim to do but I’m all for shoes that motivate and promote activity. I know that I was motivated to test these out. That’s the first step!

I am in the middle of something I get so involved that I often forget to get moving. Setting a timer helps me to remember that I need to take 15 minutes for myself and do something physical. I walk 5 miles a day, so I would love these to help tone my legs.

sneaking in a workout is easy but i hardly do. usually i jog my son to the park or take him on my bike. come fall i will resume my workouts at the gym when he’s at preschool. i want to try shapeups because tho they look like orthopedic shoes they seem to get results. can’t wait to read of your progress!

I need to be creative to workout because I always have one of my kids with me. It might be playing frisbee with my son or pushing my daughter in stroller up and down the hills where I live. I want to try shape-ups because I think they will motivate me to walk more. I also hope they help tone legs.

I have to be creative in working my kids into my exercise routine. It will be easier when the older 2 go to school this fall, but I still have my baby to take with me. I’d like the Skechers because anything extra I can have to help me get back in shape would be great! I still haven’t lost the baby weight.

I’m not really too creative about sneaking in workouts, although mostly I get exercise by walking. If I need to go to the mall, I spend some extra time just walking through before I even start shopping. I’d love to have a pair of Skechers to increase the intensity of my walks.

My Answer: Not to creative, I usually just fit in open moments that are available> I would want to have the Shape-Ups because I feel a shoe that can provide better posture & feels comfortable will automatically make you feel better about yourself and give you the encouragement to walk more exercise more & get into better shape, thanks

I’d like to think taking the little one’s out and about is my sneaky way of getting exercise and these shoes would only help increase that workout! Plus we love to run and play outside in our yard too!

I would love to try these shoes because my daughter has the flip flop Shape-ups and they have helped her tone her thighs! Maybe they could help me too!!! I try to sneak in a work-out by walking the track at my daughter’s school while I wait to pick her up.

don’t know if its creative but when cooking I stretch, I will make myself walk further by parking further- walk and take the dog out even if not in the mood – do ankle weights while on the couch watching a movie at night- just trying to keep moving

I love to dance, and when I am busy in or out of the house I love to listen to high energy music and dance! My husband serenades the whole neighborhood while mowing. I am also an excellent chair dancer! lol

I don’t always have time for a work out so I always park far from the doors so I have to walk further and I take the stairs over taking an elevator. I’d like to win the shoes to help out in this area.

I try to fit it in where I can, I have steps at work and find a reason to go up them more often than necessary.
I love my ‘regular’ skechers and have been wondering how these work, I’ve heard good things as long as you walk they way they recommend

I am not very creative with a work out routine. I have incorporated a few things I can do at my desk. I keep a Thigh Master (I know, old school) under my desk and use it daily as I work on the computer. I love to walk and do it as often as possible. I would love to try the Skechers’ Shape-Ups because I have heard so many positive things about them….evidently they work! :-) Thank you.

Hey, I’ve come up with my perfect workout solution. I can fit in
exercise by just dancing as I go through my day. I love to put on
my favorite music; especially as I clean house.

Im pretty creative in fitting in a workout, just make your mind up to stick with it.

I am very creative in NOT working out – got lots of excuses! I get started each day (or during each day) and realize how easy it is to march in place while folding laundry or lunges while washing dishes – but it is much easier to just complain about not exercising to my full potential than to break a sweat!

As a working mother of six kids, time for a workout can be hard to squeeze in. I take advantage of my breaks at work to go for a 15 minute walk. I take a 30 minute walk during lunch. I try to keep moving while at the baseball, football and soccer games. I can get a lot of walking done while watching the kids at their games.

I want to try them as my thighs need help and it will tone up my legs. I try to park away from stores and work so I walk and I take the stairs when I can. I want to walk and get exercise as much as possible to stay healthy.

about to have baby #2 in sept. I know i wont’ have as much time to spend on working out. I try to do what I can at home with my toddler we have a treadmill I try to do that as much as possible. I go up and down our stairs all day long. I like to walk to the mailbox and walk as much as I can.

Three of us gals retired and then joined Curves. We have a set time we go every morning..and that was the best decision we made. It keeps up accountable to each other. No slacking because “someone” is watching. Also, it gets us up and going for the rest of the day.

I learned that they not only tighten and firm your legs and butt but also improve circulation in your legs. I get foot cramps occasionally and I think these would really help with that.

I want to get my core in gear. I try to walk when I can and I will park a bit farther out than most because it gives me some extra calories off. I also will go out for walks with my nephew who is 19 months (he is in a stroller). I will push him in the stroller and get some weight training in too.
I just want to feel good for myself.

I try to walk as much as I can at work, and I keep up a good pace. I don’t really think shuffling around slowly does much good, no matter how comfortable that mode of moving may be.

I find as I get older, my workouts seem less and less effective. My body really wants to sag and put on weight. These shoes could be helpful in making all my walking and working out more efficient.

I can be creative to get a work out in but tend to run a little on the lazy side on that. I would like to try these because I have nerve damage in a foot and it hurts when I do a lot on it. I would like to see if these would keep my feet happy when exercising.

I don’t know that I’m terribly creative when it comes to fitting in a workout; I get out of bed and into my workout clothes. On my day off from working out, sometimes, I sneak in something low-impact (like pilates) by watching a workout video On-Demand.

I want to try Shape-Ups because I really want there to be as much definition as possible when the weight starts coming off of my legs! I’ve been losing weight and would love any extra boost I can get. The stronger my leg muscles get, the easier my workouts will be, and the more calories I can burn. :D

With two kids under 3 and working outside the home, I have to be creative when it comes to working out. The last few weeks, I have been using the Just Dance game for the Wii as my workout. My daughter does it with me and chooses which songs we should do. It is quite the workout without really seeming like one. I always break a sweat!

I would love to have these Skechers because we try to take daily walks as a family, and it would be wonderful to have that extra work-out boost from wearing these Shape-ups!

I try to workout at night not very creative but it is the only chance I get. I am always walking my dog and if I could tone my legs while doing it it would be great!

Required Entry.
I am a sahm of 4 children age 5 and under and my 3 year old is terminally ill and requires fulltime care 24/7/365. I sneak in my “workout” by quickly doing a set of 20 sit-ups on the floor next to my kids whenever possible through out the day. Also, I walk on a treadmill when kids’ daddy is home to watch them. Walking is the way I get most of my exercise in, whether outside with the kids, grocery shopping, or just walking around the house. I would love to try the shape-ups to help with my posture and to recieve the fullest benefits possible from my walking routines.

I work out anytime my two little ones are asleep – Sometimes I only get 20 min in. I also take my kids to the park often and walk two miles first with them in the double stroller (bribed with lots of snacks) and then they get to play. I would love Shapes-Ups to help tone my legs as I walk.

I care for my mom who’s recovering from a stroke, so I have to be super creative when trying to get exercise. I periodically do sit-ups, squats, and other exercises I can do with her in eye distance. The shape ups would enhance these workouts and I would feel better about being in one tiny room all day.

I work full time & in front of the computer 8 hours while at work do invoices and take them out to the warehouse that lets me get up and walk. Once i get home I eat get my daughter & her push around buggy and go to the end of the block and back (our block is about 1 mile long) & i would like the Shape ups so they can help me tone up my legs while i walk

I’m not very creative at fitting in workouts. I walk several days a week and I do make it a point to go up and down the stairs at our house at least 10x/day. I would like to try Shape-Ups because I think they would help me firm my legs faster than just walking.

I try to be as creative as possible when working out by making EVERYTHING I do into a workout. I do excercises at my desk at work and try to always exert myself to the fullest extent when running errands. I would love to try these because I need all the help I can get in getting back into shapely quickly from having my baby.

when i work out i jump on my mini trampoline while watching my favorite show or i dance to 80′s songs :) . i would like to try the shape ups because i have just recovered from a heel spur and always have problems walking long distances. with the shape ups i’m hoping to be able to walk better and improve my posture. thank you

I’m bad about fitting in my workout. I joined Curves over a year ago and it took me about a year to get my 100 workout shirt! I’m creative though in making excuses not to go and I have a bad attendance problem….shame on me!

I would love to try these shoes. I do tons of walking everyday, well over the 10000 step they encourage. With two little ones I have to always work my workout around them and with them. We run 3 miles each morning with our double stroller and go for a walk most nights after dinner. And yet I could use some help toning up. :)

I use “exercise on demand” on our TV…whenever I can! If I have to pop a dvd into the laptop, so be it, I’ll do that too. Can’t really afford a club membership at the moment, but I’ll exercise at midnight if I have to! :-) These shoes sound helpful and comfortable.
