Holiday Gingerbread Recipe

This tasty bread will leave your house smelling amazing!

Recipe: Gingerbread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp ginger
    1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
    1 tsp cocoa
    1 cup milk
    1/2 cup dark molasses
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/2 cup butter (or margarine)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Mix dry ingredients (minus the sugar) in a large bowl. In a small saucepan, warm the milk, molasses, sugar and butter, stirring frequently. Do not boil. Cool and add dry ingredients. Stir until blended. Pour into a greased and floured loaf pan. Bake for 40 min or until toothpick comes out clean.

Sounds so yummy. Two questions. First, can the pumpkin pie spice be sub’d with anything? My Mom can’t have it. Also, is it the dark baking cocoa? Or like the kind you mix into hot cocoa? Thanks!

I use the Hershey’s unsweetened baking cocoa and you could use nutmeg or all spice in place of the pumpkin pie spice =) Enjoy!

I’ve never tried making gingerbread, but this sounds heavenly! Might be a good weekend baking project!

I made this the other day and the kids LOVED it. I used nutmeg and allspice in exchange for the pumpkin spice. I just added a link to this post on my cooking blog… Thanks again for sharing….
